Project Impact

Last July (year?), God prompted Grow in Hope to begin fundraising to renovate an empty building on the Nutrition Unit compound at Mulago Hospital. We are happy to report that God has provided the funds to complete this nearly $30,000 project. That space has now been transformed into a specialized care unit for malnourished infants aged 0–6 months.

The renovation created dedicated areas for breastfeeding consultations and milk expression, along with four private rooms designed to provide extra care for fragile infants. Walls and floors were fully tiled to ensure a hygienic environment, and painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work were completed. Cheerful green curtains, paintings of fawns, and encouraging Scriptures were added to bring warmth and hope into the space.

Outside, we created a peaceful area for caregivers to rest and regain strength. Inside, a room was refurbished for hospital staff, including the kitchen where therapeutic milk will be prepared. New hot plates and a refrigerator were provided to support this life-saving work. We also renovated a training area and staff offices, and added a beautiful research library for medical students.

The church-like pavilion that Grow in Hope built in 2020 also received new tile on the floors and walls, making it easier to clean and more durable for daily use. This facility is used for outpatient reviews and spiritual care, including weekly Bible studies conducted by GIHM staff. One of the final projects included converting a former office into a space that will soon offer physical therapy for children with special needs.

We are deeply grateful to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for launching our campaign, and to Trinity Lutheran Church for their generous Outreach Grant, which brought us significantly closer to our fundraising goal. We also thank the individual donors who gave generously so that we could complete this project with excellence.

This renovated space was urgently needed and is ready to offer safe, appropriate care to hundreds of vulnerable infants. We believe it will be a place where physical healing is matched with the peace and hope of Christ, as Grow in Hope staff serve both patients and caregivers.

Project Impact

On June 11 (year?), we had the privilege of participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new hybrid solar pump that Grow in Hope installed at Nsinze Health Center IV in Namutumba District, Uganda. This moment marked a tremendous milestone in our three-year partnership with this government health facility.

Nsinze is located about four hours from Kampala—not far in miles, but made distant by difficult road conditions and heavy traffic. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the faithful and tireless Dr. Lubiite Allan, the lead doctor and surgeon who manages the facility. Dr. Allan has been a beacon of hope for this underserved region, serving a population of over 300,000 with only a fraction of the resources needed.

Also welcoming us was Sarah, the head midwife, who has recently been honored as the top midwife in all of Uganda. During the celebration, she was publicly recognized with a special award from the District Commissioner. It was a joy to see her hard work acknowledged, especially as she and her team safely deliver more than 150 babies every month—often with limited supplies.

This facility had never had running water in its 80-year history. Until now, all water was carried by hand in jerry cans. But thanks to your support, that has changed. The newly installed hybrid pump now supplies running water to every building on the health center grounds. In addition, outdoor taps have been added to each building for easier access. The well was tested and found to be strong enough not only to serve the health center, but also to support additional public taps for the surrounding community. We’re grateful to extend the gift of clean water beyond the hospital walls. This transformation was even reported in a national paper. Check it out here.

Much is happening at Nsinze Health Center under the leadership and integrity of Dr. Allan, and we are excited about the future. In January, Grow in Hope will be placing a full-time social worker at the facility to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to patients and families.

Project Impact

Pediatric Acute Care Unit (ACU), is part of Mulago Hospital, Kampala, Uganda. ACU treats between 9,125 - 10,950 acutely ill pediatric patients each year. The facilities of this 10,000 sq.ft. building have been in poor condition, having been built back in 1917 and only having had limited updates over the years. The renovations we have made will create a more hygienic, organized, and child friendly facility. The improved facilities will also build motivation in the staff, with a better working environment. The renovation project will also bring hope for patient and caregivers, bringing an improved recovery rate for the patients.
